What physical hole size is needed for a bulkhead?

Friday, 10 April 2009 21:39

There are several factors to consider with the hole size needed for a bulkhead. The information below is considered "general" guidelines for the most popular types of bulkheads. (For example they may not apply to schedule 80 bulkheads).

  • 3/4 inch bulkhead:  1 1/2 inches (thick walled bulkheads need 1 3/4 inch hole)
  • 1 inch bulkhead: 1  3/4 inches
  • 1 1/2 inch bulkhead: 2  1/2 inches

Be sure to check with your supplier before ordering, and be sure to have bulkheads in hand before having a tank custom drilled!!

Richard, I built the Durso Standpipes tonight and you would not believe the difference. My oceanic 200 is almost quite now. I have to work on the humming from the MAK4 and some of the noise from the RIO 1100 and all will be well. I posted a success story on the reefers NG with a link to your site.
